Rhododendron Flower Week

The Rhododendron Flower Week, scheduled from April 3 to 9, 2025, in the scenic regions of Merak and Sakteng in Trashigang, Eastern Bhutan, is a vibrant celebration of the area’s natural beauty and the rich cultural heritage of the Brokpa community. ​

Event Highlights:

• Hiking and Trekking: Explore trails adorned with blooming rhododendrons, including hikes from Mendrula Pass to Dammazhung/Jigmeling, treks along the Jomo Panda Trail via Nangchungla Pass (4,140 meters), and visits to Borangtse Gonpa & Guru Lhakhang in Sakteng. ​

• Cultural Experiences: Engage in traditional Brokpa activities such as dressing in their attire at dedicated photo booths, savoring local cuisine, and witnessing a Brokpa marriage ceremony in Merak. ​

• Other Activities: Participate in events like a young ladies’ beauty contest in Merak, demonstrations of fermented cheese (yosha) preparation, bonfires with cultural performances, and opportunities for yak riding and interactions with yak herders.
